On January 12th, the USPP annual College Fair and Counseling Session were held in Beijing No.35 High School. The four admission officers from Northeastern University, Baylor University, DePaul University, and Marist College visited to bring students and parents presentation and one on one counseling.
First of all, Principal Zhu gave an opening speech. He gave the four admission officers and two representatives from Kaplan a warm welcome. After that, these four university admissions officers introduced highlights of each university to the students and parents.
Northeastern University was founded in 1898. It is located in Boston which is a modern city with a profound history. The university offers more than 170 majors, and 95 of them are combined majors. In addition, the school offers 24 PlusOne accelerated Master’s programs, in which students can obtain master degrees after a four-year undergraduate degree plus one year of study. The school also provides a variety of teaching methods such as research, global experiences, and internship. The co-op program is also a highlight in Northeastern University. Students have the opportunity to obtain an up to 12-month internship in Boston through the CO-OP program.
Founded in 1845, Baylor is the oldest continually-existing university in Texas and one of the first educational institutions in the west of the Mississippi River. It ranks 78th in 2019 US News& World Report. As a veteran of the top 100 universities, Baylor enjoys a high international reputation in many areas of teaching and academic research. In addition, Baylor has students with diverse cultural background from 50 states and 90 countries around the world and more than 300 student clubs.
DePaul University was founded in 1898 and it is located in downtown Chicago, USA. The university offers more than 300 majors for students. Entrepreneur ranked 13th in the Princeton Review, the Video Game Design ranked 7th in the US by Animation Career Review, and its undergraduate business program ranked 87th in the US. The excellent location brings plenty of internships and employment opportunities to the students and the career center also provides support for students to prepare for their future career. Surprisingly, DePaul University gathers USPP students every year for a big party to help them better adapt to university life.
Marist College is situated beside Hudson River with just an hour’s drive from Manhattan. Students who attend this university could experience the peaceful life of a traditional American university and enjoy convenient transportation to the metropolis as well. The small class size at Marist College allows students to receive more attention from professors. Apart from that, only 1% of students are from China, so students can better integrate into the American university life and learn more about the local culture.
After the presentation, the admissions officers prepared a small interactive game- Bafa Bafa for everyone. In this game, students are supposed to understand the powerful effects that culture plays in every person's life. It helps students prepare for living and working in another culture and to learn how to work with people from other departments, disciplines, genders, races, and ages.
At the same time, Li Yuxuan, the first graduate of International Department, conducted a small session at Zhicheng lecture hall, sharing the life and learning experience in the United States to parents.
The one-on-one counseling session is the highlight of this event. USPP students had face-to-face communication with the admissions officers. They have conducted in-depth discussions on major choices, internship opportunities, student clubs, accommodation, and food in USA. All of the students expressed that they have gained a lot by asking questions face to face.
Wish all of the USPP students receive the offer of their ideal university!
