Beijing No.35 High School Successfully Held EducationUSA College Fair
On March 23rd, 2019, US Embassy and Beijing No.35 High School hosted the 3rd Annual EducationUSA College Fair, involving 56 famous American universities to participate. The admissions officers and school representatives of the participating universities sent the most cutting-edge and authoritative information of studying abroad for the prospective international students, to allow students and parents to communicate with them.
The fair ranges from the US embassy official and the principal's cordial communication, overseas college fairs, to the rich and meaningful study abroad lectures and student discussions. This year's Beijing No.35 High School US College Fair attracted admissions officers from 56 US universities, such as the Ohio State University, Wesleyan College, Syracuse University, University of Minnesota, and guidance counselors from 16 international schools like The High School Affiliated To Beijing Normal University, Beijing No. 4 High School, High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, Beijing No.8 High School, Capital Normal University High School, Beijing Bayi School, etc. Everyone exchanges ideas to discuss the guidance for further studies and the future direction of international education.
The college fair was held at two venues. University admissions officers conduct face-to-face communication with the participating students and parents to provide students with an intuitive and comprehensive understanding of the school information, thereby clarifying the goals of studying abroad, adjusting the study plan, and determining the major direction. The exhibition attracted more than 200 families to participate, and the crowd was crowded and the atmosphere was warm. In addition to answering students' questions and providing relevant enrollment information, the admissions officers also actively exchanged ideas about the university's teaching principle and conveyed the characteristics of different universities.
Meanwhile, in order to cope with the college fair work, we arranged student volunteers from the international department of Beijing No.35 High School with excellent language ability to assist the counseling work of each school admissions officer. The outstanding performance of the volunteers has won high praise from US universities.
US Embassy Officials in China Conducted Themed Lectures
In the Zhicheng Lecture Hall, we invited officials from the US Embassy in China to give students a themed lecture on “Choose Your Own Future-Study in the United States” and “How to Prepare Your Student Visa”. Finally, the graduates of Smith College shared their experiences with the theme on "How US Education Changes Myself?"
There are more than 5,000 schools of higher education in the United States. These universities offer us incomparably rich selections, and also leave us difficulties on how to choose a school. Due to lack of understanding, many students only consider ranking when choosing a university. However, rankings can't help you predict your future experience. The most important thing is to find the right university for you, because only when you find the right environment, you can develop your strengths and maintain your physical and mental health. Therefore, you should know the type of school, tuition, living expenses, student services, accommodation conditions, location environment, etc. to choose the university that best suits your needs. The lecture was delivered by the US Embassy EducationUSA Senior Education Commissioner.
In the “How to Prepare a Student Visa” lecture, the US Embassy visa officer on behalf of the US government welcomes Chinese students to study in the United States. She introduced how to obtain a visa form, how to prepare visa information, and provided the official website of the US Consulate. She also reminded the students not to recite sample answers in the interview, but to tell the true reasons and study plan for studying in the United States. Even if they are refused, they still have the right to apply again and will not be affected by the previous rejection.
In the lecture, graduates from Smith College combined their life experiences of studying abroad and working, and gave a wonderful speech on how the American school experience affects themselves, how to determine goals, develop good habits, and scientifically arrange time.
Thanks to the participation of students and parents, the Beijing No.35 High School US College Fair concluded successfully. Let us look forward to attracting more outstanding overseas schools to come to Beijing!
