After the visit to Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Birmingham, and Manchester, we continue with our trip around nearly the whole island. We are so honored to have the opportunity to pay visits to the most famous universities on the way.
The Most Stunning Views Lie in Experiences
Manchester Metropolitan University
University of Manchester
“To me, the name of this university is one of the best. I am really interested in the students who can learn for just five years to get a Doctor Degree in Medical College here. I think this educational system is quite effective and attractive. We saw the beautiful views in Law School. I felt the strong learning atmosphere here. And our guide shared many interesting stories about the famous people who studied and graduated from here. The university made them and they also made the university. I truly admire all the students who can have the opportunity to study here and especially those who successfully complete their degree in the end and furthermore, make many devotions to human or their country.”
Certain Motivated Feelings Stirred in Heart
It may be exactly what we have seen, heard or experienced that triggers certain feelings in our mind, giving directions towards our future.
University of York
“With the fresh air in the morning, the breeze touched my cheeks and made me feel comfortable. The first thing I saw in the university was the artificial lake, which was covered with a thin layer of ice, indicating the cold and humid weather here. The ducks on the lake swam forward without fear. The teaching buildings are mostly grey and cubic-shaped, which is very characteristic of buildings during 1960s. While we toured around the campus, I caught sight of the students studying there. Their hardworking look made me more determined to study hard. What impressed me most was the requirement of entry to this university. Although there are many strict conditions, I am not deterred. Instead, I feel firmer towards my goal. Those that cannot beat me make me stronger! I hope we can all get a satisfactory result in the end.”
University of Cambridge
“When I told people that my dream is to enter the University of Cambridge, they always ironically said that is impossible, but they never said the reason. Today we visited the university and listened to the lecture on recruitment, during which I knew that Cambridge not only looks for students with high grades but also those who are unique and have distinctive personality. It is sad to know that the majority of Chinese students tend to lose their individuality, “being the same” stands for good students and promises sense of inner safety. Another problem with Chinese candidates is that many of them are pushed by their parents to apply for the majors that they actually do not enjoy, and this is not what Cambridge agrees with. You do what you like, and you will be more likely to make it when you like it. These make me reflect upon myself. I do have clear personality which I believe is absolutely different from others, and I do have my dream major, architecture, which stems from my 10-year travelling experiences in more than 10 countries where I found my great interest lies in those magnificent buildings as they could bring people with breath-taking views as well as stories of the past. However, the problem for me, which I must admit, is that my grades so far are not high enough to get enrolled into the university. I must work harder on my weak subject—A-level math. Therefore, my future plan is to keep developing my personality and improving the required skills for my dream major, and most importantly, soak myself in math learning. ”
A Step Forward in Action
Immersed in the academic atmosphere on these university campuses with brilliant scenery, and motivated after learning about the high-leveled enrollment requirements, we decided to take our actions. We seized the chance to do interviews and questionnaires with local students for our projects around the campus, which was definitely a test of courage, but we were happy we did it!
Whether it was successful or failed, the most thing for us was to try to step forward and experience. When we choose not to stay in our comfort zones, we will somehow gain something different and valuable. We wrote our experiences and feelings in our travel journal and shared with each other.
This is also our pre-academic phase. We are going to officially start our academic life in Brockenhurst College. We will try our best to get prepared and behave well. Looking forward to it！
